Difficult decision to purchase the Braun after many years of using a rotary shaver. But after reading online reviews, along with the high rating by consumer services, I decided on the Braun and I am very happy with the close shave, the popup trimmer and the 28 days between the first and second charge. I only use the charge portion of the clean and charge system, since I prefer the regular “dry” shave and do not care to spend additional time and money (cleaning solution) to use the cleaning system. The only thing I have to get used to is the louder noise, but that is certainly not a big deal. Bottom line, this is an excellent shaver and I won’t go back.

In my mid 60’s, have used a multi bladed razor for the past 50 years. Most recently been cutting my aging skin with a 3 blade Gillette. Decided to go electric, read all the reviews and the Braun 9 series was the one. Can’t beat Costco’s price on this one and it shaves me as close as a blade (with no cuts)!! There is a learning curve, for the sides and front of my face go up and down as they suggest. If you have issues with your neck hairs and up and down doesn’t work well, go side to side with the Braun 9, problem solved! My neck and face are as clean shaven as a 3 bladed razor! So happy I made the move and thanks Costco for the excellent pricing!

I purchased this shaver as a gift for my husband for Christmas. I had purchased a Braun electric shaver for him many years ago and he loved it. My husband was blown away by how smooth his face felt and how easy the shaver glided over his face. My husband is not one for praising things—so this was a big deal. He mentioned his old Braun even in its heyday did not work as well as the Braun Series 9. Also, my husband usually uses a hand shaver (the one that you use with shaving cream) because the electric did not give him the close shave he desired. He mentioned that he uses the Braun Series 9 nearly everyday and does not use the hand shaver that much any more.

Pro: Good deal from Costco – only difference I can tell from regular model is this one only has one cleaning setting instead of three. If you want to buy a Braun Series 9 this is a good option.
Con: #1: I was hoping for a good substitute for a regular razor. While this may be one of the best electric razors available it is still far off from a regular razor. As is, it takes considerable effort to get an acceptable shave. #2: The trimmer pop up is only good for sideburns. For mustache, etc… you can’t use it because it is blocked from view since behind the razor – not a good design. #3: For an expensive razor the directions should be better.

I have used the Braun 7 series for 10 yrs. This shaver is quieter and shaves faster, but it also consumes cleaning solution 3 times faster. One cleaning cartridge would last 45-60 days with the 7 series, with this 9 series the cartridge lasted me 15 days. This is how Braun has decided they’ll get your money, via cleaning cartridge purchases. In addition, you can’t recycle the plastic cartridges, so in the landfill every 15 days. Also, this unit is not as shown on the box or Costco website. I returned this shaver due to excessive consumption of cleaning cartridges.

I purchased this shaver in replacement of Braun series 92xx model (whose cleaning system broke down). I did not actually expect it to be a significant improvement. I was pleasantly surprised. Not only does it generally shave closer, but there is one area of a major difference: the neck. The older shaver just could not shave the neck, and the new one does so with no difficulty. All in all a great shaver.
The only slight downside is that the cleaning system is unfortunately not backwards compatible with my old 92xx series model. But I wouldn’t take any points off for that.

I’ve been using Braun shavers for at least 25 years, and this is the best one by far. The old ones struggled a bit with a thick beard, but not this one. It’s like a magic beard eraser. I waited a couple of months to review, thinking my opinion could change, but not so. It’s a little louder than my old machines because it seems to function at higher speed, but I think that’s part of its effectiveness. I didn’t think I’d be interested in the cleaning function, but it’s very nice, keeps the shaving head spotless. It’s a little expensive, but well worth it.

I’ve had the series 7 razor for 3 years and it’s not perfect, But has been excellent overall. I believed that this new series 9 razor would far surpass the old one. That did not turn out to be true. Braun has taken several shortcuts with this razor. The most egregious is that the cleaning station no longer dries the razor. Once you clean it, it is still soaking wet 24 hours later. I called the manufacturer thinking this was a defect and was told the heating element had been removed and this was not unexpected. This is a deal breaker for me
